Projects
The Avaric Language
This project focuses on the decipherment and linguistic interpretation of the runiform inscriptions found on Late Avar artefacts, especially those associated with the Treasure of Nagy-Szentmiklós. It brings together epigraphic, philological, historical, and comparative linguistic evidence in order to reassess the language of the inscriptions and their place within the linguistic history of Inner Eurasia.
The results of this research are being prepared in the monograph The Avaric Language: A New Decipherment of the Runiform Inscriptions on Late Avar Artefacts including the Treasure of Nagy-Szentmiklós.
Altuigurisches Wörterbuch
I am currently working in the project Altuigurisches Wörterbuch at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony. My work focuses on the lexicographical documentation and analysis of Old Uyghur vocabulary, especially nominal entries beginning with b-.
The project contributes to the systematic description of Old Uyghur as one of the central written languages of premodern Inner Asia and provides a foundation for further philological, linguistic, and historical research.
Old Uyghur Vocabulary in Brāhmī, Tibetan, and ’Phags-pa Script Sources
This project investigates the vocabulary of Old Uyghur texts written in Brāhmī, Tibetan, and ’Phags-pa scripts. These sources are of particular importance for the reconstruction of Old Uyghur phonology and for the study of lexical variation across different script traditions.
The project combines philological analysis with comparative Turkic linguistics and aims to clarify the linguistic value of non-Uyghur-script sources for the study of Old Uyghur vocabulary.
Reconstruction of Proto-Turkic
A major focus of my research concerns the reconstruction of Proto-Turkic phonology and lexicon. Particular attention is devoted to the integration of Common Turkic and Chuvash data, as well as to the evaluation of external comparisons involving Mongolic, Tungusic, Yeniseian, and other language families of Inner Eurasia.
This research is currently being developed into a monograph entitled A Compendium of Common Turkic–Chuvash Lexical Correspondences with Proto-Turkic Reconstructions. The work systematically analyses lexical correspondences between Common Turkic and Chuvash and proposes both minimal and full Proto-Turkic reconstructions, while also assessing their potential external comparanda.
